In October 2025, foreign investors significantly increased their investments in Canadian securities, with holdings rising by C$46.62 billion. This marks the highest investment level since March 2022 and shows a leap from the C$31.32 billion reported in September, surpassing market projections of C$21.84 billion. This influx was primarily driven by a C$34.0 billion uptick in debt securities alongside a C$12.6 billion rise in equities. Among non-resident investors, Canadian bonds were particularly attractive, with purchases totaling C$38.6 billion. Specifically, private corporate bonds accounted for +C$17.8 billion while federal government bonds added +C$16.2 billion to the investments. Additionally, equities experienced a C$12.6 billion increase, representing the highest monthly investment since September 2024. This was mainly due to acquisitions in the energy, mining, finance, and insurance sectors, although there were some divestments in trade and transportation shares. Conversely, Canadian investors offloaded C$11.6 billion in foreign securities, marking the largest monthly decrease since January 2023, with significant reductions in stocks and bonds, particularly US assets.
