2025.04.0116:12:05UTC+00DAX Leads Gains in Europe

On Tuesday, Frankfurt's DAX index closed with a robust gain of approximately 1.7%, reaching 22,540, after recovering from significant losses the day prior. It notably outperformed its regional counterparts. The market was primarily influenced by tariff news, as investors anticipated President Trump's announcement of reciprocal tariffs, potentially including a 25% import duty on automobiles. However, ambiguity persisted concerning the precise details, with some reports indicating a possible 20% duty on the majority of U.S. imports. Furthermore, inflation in the Eurozone eased to 2.2%, a factor that might bolster expectations for an ECB rate cut, despite ongoing risks associated with trade tensions. On the corporate scene, Commerzbank emerged as a standout performer, soaring 7.3%. Industrial conglomerate Thyssenkrupp also experienced a notable rise, climbing 6% after Kepler Cheuvreux analysts upgraded its stock rating from “hold” to “buy,” driven by favorable conditions in the steel and defense sectors due to increased fiscal expenditure in Germany. Conversely, auto stocks faced declines.
