In April 2025, the Dallas Fed's general business activity index for Texas services declined significantly, dropping 8.1 points to a level of -19.4. This marks the weakest measure since October 2023 and indicates a continued decline in business conditions. Despite this downturn, the revenue index, which serves as a crucial indicator of the state's service sector health, rose by 3 points to +3.8. Employment indicators pointed to a deterioration, with the employment index moving from 2.2 down to -5.1, and the part-time employment index declining from -1.7 to -3.4. Business outlooks also took a hit, as the company outlook index plummeted to a 34-month low of -15.5, and the outlook uncertainty index increased by 13 points to 40.5, reaching its highest point since mid-2022. Price pressures grew, with the selling prices index rising to 8.4 and input prices increasing from 27.0 to 32.5, while wage growth held steady at 9.1.
